Those crafty Norwegians thought they could give Barack Obama the peace prize and he would quickstep into the Copenhagen Climate conference with promises and plans for greenhouse gas reductions. Instead Obama joined in the non-productive rhetoric shared by every major power on the Earth. The Chinese blamed the Indians for global warming climate change. The Indians Blamed Indonesia and everyone blamed the US for buying all the products that pollution produced.
Now, as the coal dust settles, it seems a familiar culprit is at large, that crew being big oil in collusion with big business. It does sound like a case of round up the usual suspects, as governments backed away from acknowledging the larger Earth picture and refused to commit to new emissions protocols.
No less than the Oracle of Omaha himself Warren Buffet has gone short on clean energy by investing heavily in fossil fuel companies such as ExxonMobil. Buffet has even gone so far as to purchase the nation’s largest coal carrier the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad for $26 billion. Ah, but the Oracle may be losing his Midas touch. In the last two months all those disagreeing nations from COP15 have independently had better second thoughts and are back on the short track for carbon emissions control. Clean energy plans are again on the rise and the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe may need to start taking on paying passengers.
